The Unborn

While watching the trailer to the movie “The Unborn”, I got this idea for another prop which I call “The Unborn.”  Basically the idea is a humanoid creature which walks on all fours, and its body’s structure goes against the physics of nature.  As shown in the picture above.  The character that I used for inspiration from the movie is the picture right below.

The first photos show a basic drawing I did on the structure of the prop.  I wanted to make its body like in the movie, but with my own twist. It isn't a very good image, but it was my first thoughts on the prop.

After getting a basic understanding of how I wanted to make the body, I started cutting out pieces out of PVC shown in the photo below.  Each PVC was cut in dimension to that of a 6ft human.  I used the Zobietronix Calculator to figure out what to use for dimension for his arms, legs, etc.

The next thing I needed to do was to make an arch on the back.  I felt it would be a lot easier on me if I made the props back with a bit of a curve to it.  That was done by taking a blow-torch and melting the back.  As you can see it came out ok.

I am working on the ribs, face, hands, and feet.  In this photo you will see that I attached the face.  The face was bought from Fright Theatre.  I put some latex on it and painted it.  I ribs I started out with wire and hot glued them to the pvc pipe.

In this photo, I added paper mache to the ribs.  The ribs are a combo of newpaper and tissue paper.(tissue paper on top)  I also added cardboard hip bones and the points to the spine were cardboard as well.  I then paper machined over them.  Everything was painted with gray, black, and stain. The red was a mistake, so I painted over it.  In this photo I also added clothes which were medical scrubs from ebay. Also added foam onto the pvc pipes to add depth.

This was the finished photo(I will have to take a few photographs in the dark)  At this point I paper machied the legs that I added foam to. The feet were made with duc tape, paper, and part of a flip flop.  The hands and arms were made of combo of pvc pipes layered with foam.(You can get that in the PVC section as well)  I added wire to the end of the pvc pipes to make fingers.  I then paper machied them.
